24-h recall vs Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) as tools for dietary assessment and nutritional status appraisal
- Beschreibung
A 24-hour dietary recall (24HR) is a structured interview intended to capture detailed information about all foods and beverages consumed by the respondent in the past 24 hours, most commonly, from midnight to midnight the previous day.
A food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) consists of a finite list of foods and beverages with response categories to indicate the usual frequency of consumption over the period queried. To assess the total diet, the number of foods and beverages queried typically ranges from 80 to 120. Portion size can be combined with frequency information of food consumption and some questionnaires include portion size images in an attempt to enhance accuracy.
Both tools can be used to gather information about the dietary assessment, and each has the strength and limitation for a purpose study. The choice of a dietary assessment approach for a given research objective may involve multiple dietary assessment instruments and is influenced by many factors. These factors include the type and amount of information provided by the instrument(s), analytic flexibility, investigator and respondent burden, and cost. The result of these instruments can be used for the nutritional status assessment of the respondent.
Through this project, the student will review the strength and limitations of both techniques by exploring the literature, published research in various research databases like pub-med, google scholar, and Scopus.
- Beschreibung des interdisziplinären Teils des Projekts
- At the beginning of the project, the students will be taught to do literature research via Scopus and web of science. Therefore the project can be done by a student from any discipline.

- Details zu Projektzeitraum und Durchführung
At the beginning of the project, there will be an introduction and guidelines to the search engine (literature database) and the purposes of the project.
Afterward, searching the related articles, develop the 24h recall and FFQ questionnaire, compare the result both of instrument with literature, abstract and poster development
