A literature review on farmers' decision making and land use decision models

Beschreibung

Farmers and their decisions on crop choices have played a significant role in land use change (LUC). Faced with the current reality of climate change, the developing countries are the most susceptible as their decisions can have far-reaching consequences on their fragile livelihood and environment. In Thailand and Vietnam, the rate of land use change in recent years has been quite rapid. These changes in land use have been observed in the subsistence and commercial farmers. Both biophysical and socioeconomic factors are known to influence their decision processes, however, which are the most influencing factors for these farmers and to what extent do they apply for each farmer type?

Over time, several land use decision models have been developed, yet there are hardly any significant changes in the adoption of these models by the farmers. What are the main features of these models and what problems do these models address? Are they relatable to the needs of the farmers? How may these models improve to help farmers in their farming decisions?

The project will introduce the basics of scientific writing and standard structure for thesis, the use of search engines to research literature, citation and bibliography management. The project will further elaborate standard presentation approaches of data and results as well as structured text.
