Brighter Agricultural Futures in Oaxaca, Mexico

Beschreibung

The Bright Futures Project aims to identify examples of agricultural sustainability in various countries, including Mexico. As a fundamental part of this research, we focus on deeply understanding the context of Oaxaca, a state that, due to its exceptional biodiversity, rich traditional agriculture, and marked socioeconomic inequalities, presents a unique range of research topics and opportunities.

In this phase of the project, our objective is to identify and analyse the gaps in both research lines and in the state's geographical areas on sustainable agricultural practices and in the practices currently implemented in Oaxaca. This analysis will allow us to contrast these gaps with the map of "bright spots" we have developed, with the purpose of finding socio-ecological systems that are already an example of sustainability or that have high potential to become one.

Beschreibung des interdisziplinären Teils des Projekts
While the literature review requires methods from the social sciences to interpret the context and qualitative factors, the construction of databases and subsequent analysis demand knowledge from disciplines such as agricultural sciences, socioeconomics, sustainability science, and statistics.
