Getting Ready for Artificial General Intelligence

Beschreibung

Are you fascinated by the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and wondering what it means for your own future? Do you want to be part of a pioneering team that doesn’t just talk about the future, but actively shapes it? Then this Humboldt Reloaded project is for you!

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is no longer a distant science fiction scenario—leading experts predict that AGI could become reality within the next few years, fundamentally transforming the way we work, learn, and live. The ChatGPT App has already reached over 48 million downloads (even more than TikTok!), and the next leap in AI capabilities is just around the corner. But what does this mean for students, professionals, and society as a whole? How can we prepare ourselves to not just survive, but thrive in a world where super-intelligent AI could change everything?

In this interdisciplinary research project, we aim to build a diverse team of students from all disciplines to tackle an urgent questions of our time: How can individuals, universities, and communities get ready for the age of AGI? Together, you will investigate the potential risks and opportunities of super-intelligent AI and develop actionable recommendations for personal and institutional preparedness.

You’ll have the chance to:

  • Dive deep into the latest research on AGI and its societal impact
  • Develop practical strategies for upskilling, resilience, and responsible AI use
  • Present your findings at the Humboldt Reloaded conference

Whether you’re passionate about technology, concerned about the future of work, or eager to make a difference in how society adapts to change, this project offers you a unique opportunity to gain research experience, build your network, and create a real asset for your CV. No prior AI knowledge is required—just curiosity, commitment, and the drive to shape the future.

Join us and become part of a community that’s not just ready for the future, but ready to lead it!

Beschreibung des interdisziplinären Teils des Projekts
This project is explicitly interdisciplinary: students from at least two different academic backgrounds—such as economics, psychology, computer science, or philosophy—work closely together to address the complex challenges and opportunities of AGI. Interdisciplinary collaboration is realized through joint investigation of research questions, shared methodological approaches, and the integration of findings in co-presentations, group discussions, and collaborative reports. By combining and connecting different disciplinary perspectives, the team is able to generate more comprehensive and innovative answers than would be possible within a single field, ensuring that technical, economic, social, and ethical dimensions are all considered. This approach allows participants to experience the unique value and added depth that true interdisciplinary research brings to tackling real-world problems.

Details zu Projektzeitraum und Durchführung

The project is structured to run over the course of one semester and is divided into three main phases. In the first phase, we will have a meet-up, get an overview on the topic and define our research focus based on the participant's backgrounds and interests. The second phase focuses on conducting literature research: teams collect and analyze data, and work collaboratively to address the project’s core questions from multiple disciplinary perspectives. In the final phase, the group synthesizes their findings, and prepares a poster on actionable recommendations as a lasting outcome. Throughout the project, regular interdisciplinary workshops and group discussions ensure that insights from all fields are integrated, leading to well-rounded and actionable results.

Lernziele

Die Teilnehmende lernen in diesem Projekt:

  • Developing the ability to collaboratively define and refine research questions that draw on multiple disciplinary perspectives.
  • Gaining experience in conducting literature research and data analysis
  • Practicing interdisciplinary teamwork through regular workshops, group discussions, and the joint creation of project outputs such as posters and presentations.
  • Enhancing skills in integrating and synthesizing diverse viewpoints to generate well-rounded, actionable recommendations.
  • Strengthening communication abilities by presenting complex findings in a clear and accessible way to both academic and non-academic audiences.

Building awareness of the strengths and limitations of different disciplinary approaches, and learning to navigate and bridge these differences in a research context.
