Identification of Protein-Based Insecticidal Compounds for Sustainable Pest Control

Beschreibung

This research project focuses on the discovery and evaluation of protein-based insecticidal compounds as an alternative to chemical pesticides. The study aims to identify proteins with insecticidal activity against major agricultural pests, including Spodoptera exigua and Leptinotarsa decemlineata, using bioassays and molecular biology techniques. Participants will gain hands-on experience in protein production, purification using bacterial expression systems, and insect toxicity assays. In addition, greenhouse plant maintenance and insect rearing will be an integral part of the project.

Beschreibung des interdisziplinären Teils des Projekts
This project bridges molecular biology, biotechnology, and agricultural sciences to develop sustainable pest control strategies. Students from different fields will collaborate on various aspects, such as: 1) Molecular and microbiological techniques (protein expression and purification using bacteria). 2) Entomology and bioassays (evaluating the insecticidal activity of proteins). 3) Agricultural applications (integrating protein-based solutions into pest management). 4) Participants will work in interdisciplinary teams, exchanging insights across fields and jointly presenting their findings.
