Precision Drying: Investigating the Drying Kinetics of Under-Researched Crops using State-of-the-Art Technology
- Beschreibung
Convective hot air drying is a standard post-harvest operation in the agricultural and food industries, used to remove excess moisture, ensure safe storage, and extend shelf life. However, scaling drying processes from laboratory trials to industrial production often leads to inefficiencies due to limited understanding of how key parameters influence moisture removal. This project offers the opportunity to conduct experiments using state-of-the-art, high-precision laboratory dryers that provide accurate control and real-time monitoring under stable climatic conditions. By systematically varying temperature, air velocity, and relative humidity, you will investigate their effects on drying kinetics. Under-researched crops will be selected for the drying experiments. Throughout the project, you will gain hands-on experience in experimental design, data acquisition, and analytical techniques. Depending on your interests, mathematical modeling can also be integrated into the work.
