Shady Transitions - the impact of a shading gradient on growth in an agroforestry field (Ackerbohne)

At the Heidfeldhof field, students get to participate in the exciting research of temperate agroforestry systems! We will get to assess the impact of the treeline's shading on the growing field bean plants. Plants react differently, depending on the shading gradient. We will track basic growth parameters like height, BBCH, LAI, and SLA. If you are interested, we can also look at the stomata and/chlorophyll. Students will get to use some basic machines to take these measures, transfer the data to Excel and see what we find out!

Measurements would be done once every 2-3 weeks once the plants are big enough.
The field can be accessed from campus by bus, walking, or bicycle.

Students will be trained on how to take the measures. Optimally, measurements will be done 4 times through the growing season. One day should be sufficient for each measuring campaign. Data can be organized then into spreadsheets to make simple visualizations of collected data. We can adjust data collection according to the interest of the student.
