Vegetarian and Vegan, a Food Taboo from Nutrition Perspective
- Beschreibung
Food taboo refers to various specific foods and beverages in conformity with various religious, cultural, legal, or other social prohibitions.
Some foods may be prohibited during certain religious periods, at certain stages of life, or for certain classes of people, or prohibited altogether.
According to the Vegetarian Society, vegetarians are people who do not eat the products or byproducts of animal slaughter. Vegetarians typically consume a range of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, and pulses, as well as “meat substitutes” that derive from these food types. Vegetarianism is generally less strict than veganism, Vegans avoid consuming or using any animal products or byproducts.
Food taboo has nutritional consequences and somehow can become malnutrition if the consumption of essential nutrients is absent from the diet for a longer period.
During the project, the student will explore the possibility of nutritional consequences of vegan and vegetarian application, and potential solutions to avoid and minimize the problems.
